Construction of the Company's new printing complex at Km. 19, Bang Na-Trad Highway, started in mid-2005. Located on a 19-rai land plot less than a 10 minutes' drive from Suvarnabhumi Airport, the new plant is expected to be operational in late 2006, as part of the Post's 60th anniversary celebrations. The 8,500-square-metre printing plant will house state-of-the-art production equipment, including the new KBA Prisma. This will be the first 4/1 or double width/single plate around press in Southeast Asia. The new press, equipped with full computerised control and pre-setting features to ensure the highest efficiency and printing quality, is capable of printing up to 75,000 copies of 32 full-colour page publications. This will significantly increase Post Publishing's printing capacity and colour capabilities to meet the growing demands of the market. A comprehensive mailroom system will also be installed at the new complex. This post-press system includes an additional mechanical inserting capacity to serve both the new printing press and existing equipment. Also included are a gripper conveyor system to transport printed copies from the press to the adjoining mailroom and complete bundle-packing equipment. All the mailroom equipment, supplied by Schur Packaging Systems a/s, will be connected in line and synchronised with the press. Two Agfa Polaris XEV computer-to-plate (CTP) machines will enable transmission of newspaper pages in the form of printing plates direct from the city-based editorial office to output at the new printing plant, thereby completely eliminating film from the pre-press process. |
