Thailand's economic consolidation affected all sectors of the economy, including those that are traditionally good customers for Special Publications, in particular autos and real estate. In addition, fewer new companies were listed on the stock exchange, another traditionally strong source of business. On the tourism front, the tsunami disaster of late 2004 put a sizeable dent in the formerly flourishing hotel and hospitality industry in the southern region, especially in the key destinations of Phuket, Phangnga and Krabi. As a result, there were fewer clients for publications to celebrate new resorts. Nevertheless, Special Publications and Supplements generated similar revenues for the Bangkok Post in 2005 as in 2004. The situation was brighter still for Post Today special publications which saw an increase in revenue of some 157%, as Post Today continued to expand its readership. Meanwhile, many businesses are again expressing a desire to publicise their latest commercial exploits through special publications with both the Bangkok Post and Post Today and prospects for 2006 indicate a recovery from the issues that constrained the section's performance in 2005. |
