Efforts to improve the Bangkok Post continued in 2005, following up on changes in design and content in the daily and weekly sections of the newspaper which were completed in August 2004. The newspaper's coverage of local and international news developments continued to adhere to the long-standing tradition of fair and balanced reporting, based on the principles of honesty and integrity. The newspaper decided to widen and deepen its coverage by reaching out to the younger generation with the launch of Guru Magazine in July 2005. Guru is a city-living magazine that targets young Thais and expatriates aged between 20-35. The magazine aims to provide this generation of readers the latest lifestyle news and act as an entertainment guide. The magazine's first section is called "The Word", where articles include opinions and anecdotes about living in Bangkok. The magazine also carries a weekly feature story. Then there's a shopping section with the latest news on what to buy. The shopping section occasionally interchanges with spa, health and beauty tips. The third section is "Wine Me, Dine Me" which covers restaurant and street eatery reviews as well as cocktail recommendations. Other restaurant news and promotions are also featured in this section. The magazine also contains extensive listings, the latest news on parties, concerts & shows, art exhibitions and travel deals as well as reviews of books, gadgets, websites and music. Extensive editorial preparations got under way in 2005 to prepare for coverage of the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne in 2006. A special team of editors and former staff members commenced work to produce a series of special publications covering His Majesty the King's life work over the past 60 years. The first special publication of the series, a four-page broadsheet pullout, was published on 5 December 2005. The series will continue in 2006 |
